Ben Griffin finished seventh and Jose Montaño shot a final round 69 to lead the University of North Carolina to a fifth-place finish Sunday at the Cabarrus County Irish Creek Intercollegiate hosted by Davidson.
Griffin shot a 71 on Sunday after a pair of 69s on Saturday. The Chapel Hill native finished the tournament at 4-under-par, four strokes behind Florida State’s Cristobal Del Solar, who won medalist honors at 8-under 205. Griffin’s 54-hole total of 209 is his best of the season (previous was 214 at the Sea Best Invitational).
Freshman Austin Hitt tied for 19th place after a 70 today and an even par total 213.
