James Piot, a fifth-year senior at Michigan State, overcame a three-hole deficit by winning five of the final eight holes, to defeat Austin Greaser 2&1 to win the 2021 U.S. Amateur Sunday at Oakmont Country Club.
Greaser, a rising junior at the University of North Carolina, earned UNC's highest finish at the most prestigious men's amateur event in golf since Tom Scherrer was second in 1992.
Piot won the 18th hole in the morning round to take a 1-up lead into the lunch break, but Greaser won the first two and three of the first four holes in the afternoon round to take a 2-up advantage with 14 holes to play.
