ATLANTA - North Carolina gymnastics head coach Derek Galvin was formally inducted into the USA Gymnastics Region 8 Hall of Fame on Saturday, June 24, at the Crowne Plaza in Atlanta. Galvin, UNC's only gymnastics coach since women's gymnastics became an NCAA sport in 1981, was joined in the class by Jay Clark, Draha Krixova, Mike LaFleur, Judy Prestigiacomo and Mark Stevenson
Region 8 Gymnastics is the Governing Body of Gymnastics in the eight states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
The third-longest tenured coach of any current sport at Carolina, Galvin has compiled an overall collegiate record of 418-247-1.
