Four North Carolina fencers earned top-10 finishes Saturday and Sunday at the Temple Open, the first collegiate competition of the Tar Heels’ 2015-16 season. Freshman Connor Ritchey finished tied for third in men’s sabre and junior Amanda Lalezarian tied for sixth in women’s foil in the best Carolina finishes.
In the women’s competition on Saturday, Lalezarian’s top 10 foil finish was followed by classmate Gabrielle D’Astoli in 14th and then three freshmen: Sydney Persing in 18th, Alicia Chen in 29th and Tori McDermott in 34th.
The Tar Heels also got a top 10 finish in women’s sabre, with sophomore Meredith Bozentka finishing eighth.
