LOS ANGELES – Shalane Flanagan will compete at the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials on Saturday to try and earn a spot for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Flanagan qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England in the marathon.
Flanagan has been to three separate Olympics and competed in the 5,000, 10,000 and marathon. Flanagan owns a bronze medal in the 10,000 from the 2008 Olympics, though that could be upgraded to silver in the future.
The marathon trials are being held in Los Angeles this year and Flanagan holds the top American qualifying time at 2:21:14.
