At precisely 6:12 p.m. Saturday, the speakers blared in Kenan Stadium with the first of a pre-game music mix crafted by Mack and Sally Brown to lend a little local heritage to the proceedings before the Carolina players began coming out for early warm-ups and the youngsters' hip-hop tastes would hold sway. There would be strains of Eric Church (a Granite Falls native and close friend of the Browns') and Chase Rice, (a Tar Heel linebacker from just over a decade ago). And the playlist of course included the music of homegrown James Taylor, who strummed his guitar in this very stadium at Springfest in the early 1970s and then in early 1990s wrote a song lamenting the residential encroachment in his childhood playgrounds just south of campus.
