Peyton Manning’s 2015 football season is one that Keith Heckendorf and Mitch Trubisky talk about often. The Denver Broncos quarterback posted his first ever sub-60 completion percentage. Manning’s yards-per-completion figure was the lowest since his rookie year in 1998. His interception frequency was way up, and his overall QB rating was significantly down.
And his team won the Super Bowl. That’s a point that Heckendorf, Carolina’s quarterbacks coach, cites with clarity to Trubisky, the Tar Heels’ new starting quarterback.
“Peyton had the worst numbers of his career, but he did a good job managing the game, and his team won,” Heckendorf says of Manning’s final NFL season and victory over the Carolina Panthers in the Super Bowl.
