CHAPEL HILL—Saturday’s 66-31 landslide victory over Duke in Kenan Stadium (and to be sure, the game was not nearly as close as even that lopsided score might indicate) was a referendum on many elements of the world of Tar Heel football:
• A maligned Carolina fan base that has been bludgeoned to a pulp over 17 years with mediocre football and five years with “The Troubles” was large and in-charge. For a game that truly mattered in terms of ACC Coastal Division standings and local pride, Carolina students arrived early and in a boisterous mood and gave the players a jolt of adrenaline from the “Jump Around” festivities upon the opening kick-off.
