The UNC fencing squads opened team competition Nov. 5 at the Elite Invitational in Philadelphia against some of the toughest opposition they’ll face all season. Fencing at the University of Pennsylvania’s Micahnik Fencing Center, the Tar Heel women finished 3-2 and the men 0-5, battling against the nation’s best.
“It’s always a difficult start when you’re competing against the top teams in the country,” UNC coach Ron Miller said. “The men definitely had their fill of that – really, they saw five of the top six teams.
“Obviously they won bouts and at times they fenced exceptionally well.
