The NCAA is honoring eight athletic programs at the University of North Carolina for placing among the top 10 percent nationally in Academic Progress Rates in their respective sports.
The eight Tar Heel squads honored this year include men's cross country, women's fencing, women's golf, gymnastics, men's soccer, men's tennis, women's tennis and volleyball.
Carolina ranked first among public institutions in the ACC and fourth overall among ACC schools with its eight teams receiving the award for ranking in the top 10 percent in their respective sports.
Notre Dame (14), Duke (12), Boston College (12) and UNC (8) were the four schools in the ACC with the most teams in the top 10 percent.
