CHAPEL HILL—The University of North Carolina is one of just three schools in the nation whose men's and women's basketball teams both earned spots in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.
UNC, Michigan and Iowa State are the three schools nationwide to send both of their basketball programs to the regional semifinal round of the tournament.
The Tar Heel men, seeded eighth in the East Region, dominated ninth-seeded Marquette, 95-63, in the first round in Fort Worth, Texas, last Thursday. On Saturday, Carolina upset top-seeded Baylor, 93-86, in overtime. UNC built a lead as large as 25 points before the Bears chipped away and forced the extra period.
