FLUSHING, New York - Sara Daavettila, a freshman on the North Carolina women’s tennis team, won the singles consolation title on Sunday at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship from Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
In the main draw singles final, Tar Heel senior Hayley Carter, the top ranked player in the nation and the fourth seed in the event faced top seed and third ranked Francesca Di Lorenzo of Ohio State. The Buckeye sophomore continued her dominant form this fall with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Carter.
Daavettila, the top ranked freshman this fall by the ITA, defeated seventh ranked Sinead Lohan of Miami by scores of 7-6 (3), 6-2.
