ORLANDO - North Carolina would not be denied in quarterfinals action at the NCAA Women's Tennis Singles & Doubles Championship on Wednesday. Fifth-year senior Sara Daavettila won in straight sets to reach the semifinals, while Makenna Jones and Elizabeth Scotty cruised into the doubles semifinals as well.
Daavettila, the top seed in the field, dispatched of No. 43 Christina Rosca of Vanderbilt, 6-2, 6-4, in one of four quarterfinal matches that took place Wednesday afternoon at the USTA National Campus.
She becomes just the fifth UNC player to reach the NCAA semifinals, joining an exquisite list that includes Cinda Gurney (1993), Jamie Loeb (2015), Hayley Carter (2016) and Cameron Morra (2019).
