Cavaliers Outlast Tar Heels, 69-61

CHAPEL HILL—CHAPEL HILL—Fourth-ranked Virginia built a nine-point first-half lead, then withstood a 17-3 second-half North Carolina rally and defeated the seventh-ranked Tar Heels, 69-61, on Monday night in the Smith Center.

Kyle Guy led the Cavaliers with 20 points, while De'Andre Hunter added 18. Coby White scored 17 points for Carolina, Cameron Johnson had 16 and Garrison Brooks pitched in 12.

Virginia improved to 21-2 overall and 9-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference with the win. Carolina fell to 19-5, 9-2.

Virginia shot 53.3 percent from the floor in the game while Carolina shot 35.
