PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - The North Carolina doubles team of Hayley Carter and Whitney Kay advanced to the quarterfinals of the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championship on Thursday.
Carter and Kay claimed their first win of the day as they swiftly defeated qualifying USC duo Gabby Smith and Jessica Failla, 8-1.
Later in the day, the Tar Heel duo pulled off an upset to advance to the Main Draw quarterfinals as they defeated No. 8 seed Quinn Gleason and Monica Robinson of Notre Dame, 8-4.
In what turned out to be a full day of tennis for Carter, the eighth-seeded sophomore in singles play lost to Ronit Yurovsky of Michigan, 4-6, 6-2, 2-6.
