Carter, Kay Advance At National Intercollegiate Indoors

FLUSHING, N.Y. - Hayley Carter and Whitney Kay of the North Carolina women’s tennis team picked up victories on Thursday during day one of the National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Carter, the No. 3 seed, began a busy day for Carolina with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Anna Shkudun of Syracuse in the first round of the singles draw.

Carter is scheduled to face Francesca Di Lorenzo of Ohio State on Friday in the second round.

In doubles, Carter and Kay were handed the No. 4 seed in the draw and opened play in the second round against Rima Asatrian and Alexandra Solovyev of Columbia.
