ROME, Georgia - Top seed and fifth ranked North Carolina cruised to a 4-0 victory over fourth seed Miami on Saturday in the semifinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship from Rome Tennis Center at Berry College.
North Carolina (29-2) will defend its 2016 title against third seed and eighth ranked Georgia Tech in the championship match on Sunday at 2 p.m. on ACC Network Extra and the WatchESPN app. The Yellow Jackets took down Duke, 4-2, in the other semifinal match on Saturday.
A marathon doubles session that lasted longer than an hour went to the Tar Heels when freshmen Sara Daavettila and Makenna Jones won a tiebreaker in shutout fashion, 7-0, on court three to give the Tar Heels an early edge over the Hurricanes.
