CHAPEL HILL - The third-ranked North Carolina men’s soccer team clinched the ACC’s Coastal Division with a 2-0 victory over 23rd-ranked Virginia Tech on Saturday night at Fetzer Field.
North Carolina (11-2-2, 5-1-1) pulls ahead by six points over second-place Notre Dame in the Coastal Division. The Tar Heels are tied with Atlantic Division leader Wake Forest with 16 total points in the race for the top seed in the upcoming ACC Championship.
David October put his Tar Heel club ahead 1-0 on a penalty kick in the 18th minute.
North Carolina (11-2-2, 5-1-1) was awarded a free kick 40 yards out to start the scoring play.
