DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina women’s foil squad went undefeated on Sunday to claim the championship cup for that weapon and lead the Tar Heel fencing team at the Duke Meet, held at Card Gym on the Duke University campus. The Carolina women finished the day 4-1, the same record the UNC men had on Saturday.
The Tar Heels started the morning strong, with a 15-12 victory over Northwestern in which each UNC weapon won 5-4. “It’s the first time in about 20 years that we’ve beaten them in all three weapons,” Tar Heel coach Ron Miller said.
