DURHAM, NC – Nils Bruening's brace lifted No. 3 North Carolina (9-1-0) past No. 19 Virginia Tech (6-4-2) 2-1 on Saturday at Koskinen Stadium in Durham. The senior scored the game-winner in the 84th minute to lead the Heels to their seventh consecutive win and remain as the only unbeaten team in conference play.
North Carolina opened the scoring in the 21st minute off the foot of Bruening. Jelani Pieters beat his defender with a spin move on the right side of the box before sliding a pass across the front of the goal to Bruening who had no problem finding the net for his 4th goal of the year.
