CHAPEL HILL – When the Tar Heels host Syracuse this weekend, Carolina will give back to the community by hosting Cancer Awareness Weekend. Saturday’s doubleheader will feature the Tar Heels’ annual Ovarian Cancer Awareness Day, in honor of former Tar Heel Jamie Shaver Mayberry, who played for UNC from 1993-96 and is now in a battle with cancer. On Sunday, the Tar Heels have elected to participate in a new initiative, teaming up with Syracuse to partner with Go4theGoal foundation in support of pediatric cancer.
Fans will have the opportunity to purchase special Tar Heel softball ovarian cancer t-shirts and softballs, with all proceeds going to support UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center in Chapel Hill.
