CARY, N.C. - It took 108 minutes but senior defender Julia Ashley scored off an assist by freshman forward Rachael Dorwart in double overtime to lift third-ranked North Carolina past second-ranked Georgetown 1-0 in the first NCAA College Cup semifinal match Friday night before 10,439 fans at Sahlen's Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park.
North Carolina handed the Hoyas their first loss of the season as the Tar Heels advance to the NCAA championship game where it will play fifth-ranked Florida State Sunday at 1 p.m. at Sahlen's Stadium. The Seminoles defeated top-ranked Stanford, the defending national champion, 2-0, in Friday's second semifinal game.
