PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - North Carolina freshman Jessie Aney came up short in her bid for the Main Draw at the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championship on Wednesday.
One day removed from winning two matches in the qualifying singles draw over nationally-ranked competition, Aney lost 6-0, 6-1, to 29th-ranked Ellen Perez of Georgia.
Aney defeated No. 73 Wendy Zhang, a sophomore from the University of Miami, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 on Tuesday morning.
The next opponent was No. 9 seed Courtney Colton of Vanderbilt, the 34th-ranked singles player in the country. Again, Aney dropped the opening set 4-6, before storming back with 6-1 and 6-0 victories in the second and third sets, respectively.
