Andy Griffith first achieved fame in 1953 when he recorded a 45 RPM record featuring “What It Was Was Football” on one side and his version of “Romeo and Juliet” on the other. Griffith portrayed a backward country hick who accidentally followed a crowd of people into a college football game. He had never seen a game before, so had no idea what was going on.
