This summer, Tar Heel Blog will profile the top 25 players in the history of the North Carolina football program. The rankings were determined by votes from readers and staff.
The 1997 season was one of the best for the North Carolina Tar Heels in football. In Mack Brown’s final season in Chapel Hill, UNC finished the year 11-1. They were ranked in the final top ten for the second consecutive season, ranking sixth in the final AP Poll and fourth in the final Coaches Poll. The ‘97 Heels tied a school record for wins in a season, as they are just one of four teams (the others being 1972, 1980, and 2015) in program history with 11 wins.
