GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference plans a season-long celebration as it recognizes the 40th anniversary of the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament.
The ACC became the first conference to conduct a women’s basketball tournament when the event was played at Charlottesville, Virginia’s University Hall in February of 1978, paving the way for countless opportunities for female student-athletes in the decades that followed. In commemoration, the ACC and its member institutions will select 40 of the league’s top women’s basketball moments to be highlighted during the upcoming season and the 2017 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament.
