This is UNC's seventh trip to the ACC Championship game in the Roy Williams era and the fifth in the last six years. Since winning the title in back-to-back season in 2007 and 2008 UNC has been to the tournament final in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015 and this season. In three of those games the opponent won its first ever conference title in basketball(FSU, Miami and Note Dame.
