Just about 24 hours after the UNC men’s team’s thrilling victory at Notre Dame, the Tar Heel women started their own game against the Irish in Carmichael Arena. Unlike the men’s team, which is having a fairly down year, the Notre Dame women are ranked #3 in the country and have probably two of the five best players in college basketball in their backcourt. After two games against elite competition that have both slipped away from them, UNC had yet another opportunity for a marquee win. Unfortunately, the game followed a familiar script: The opposing team’s stars got red-hot and UNC, despite playing well, suffered a scoring drought early that dug them into too deep a hole to get out of.
