Well this is certainly not the kind of news Kevin Keatts needs in year one at NC State. Forward Abdul-Malik Abu is out indefinitely after suffering a Grade 2 MCL sprain in one of his knees, the school announced Thursday afternoon. No timetable for return has been provided.
I’m no doctor, mind you, but knee injuries are bad and should be avoided, in my opinion. Fortunately, Abu’s injury does not require surgery, which is some reason to be optimistic that this will not end up a long-term ordeal. The Wolfpack can’t afford it to be.
The season-opener is barely two weeks away, so it may be unrealistic to expect Abu to be ready to start the season.
