For only the third time in over 46 years, and the first time since 1999, fans in Carter-Finley Stadium will hear a new voice thundering through the air this fall. Dr. Ed Funkhouser has been in the role as the “voice of Carter-Finley” for the last 18 years, but The Funkhouser stepped down earlier this year and a new voice will now take his place behind the mic. NC State selected Travis Quinn as the new guy from a pool of 90+ candidates.
This change is a rather welcome one. Funkhouser has been good (you can’t be terrible, after all, and stick around for 18 years), and he holds a rather folklore-ish status among alumni, but his voice and style were fairly flat and certainly did not invoke much in the way of energy from the crowd.
