Canaan Silver, Reid Johnston, and Andrew Blake combined to keep Michigan State off the scoreboard Saturday, while Jonny Butler, Will Wilson, and Tyler McDonough each tallied two hits on the day as NC State took down the Spartans by a final score of 5-0. With the win, the Wolfpack move to 6-0 on the season.
Silver (3.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K) started the game on the mound for the Pack Nine, working through a few difficult situations before handing the ball off to Johnston in the fourth inning. Johnston (4.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K) was so dominant in his effort that earned the win that the Michigan State coaching staff asked the home plate umpire at one point to check Johnston to see if he was using any foreign substance to gain an advantage (he wasn’t).
