NC State’s one-through-nine is going to look a whole lot different in 2022 with new starters just about everywhere, including catcher. To help bolster that position in the absence of Luca Tresh, the Wolfpack added Elon graduate transfer Matt Oldham, who brings four years of college baseball experience with him.
Oldham hit .253/.327/.346 as a freshman in 2018, then hit .224/.320/.362 in 2019, starting 47 games for the Phoenix in each season. Following the COVID-shortened 2020 season, he appeared in just 17 games for Elon this spring.
He waited until after the draft to make a decision on his future, and now he’s looking forward to playing in Raleigh:
