Full cost of attendance scholarships go into effect this school year, meaning that power conference athletes will have an extra chunk of change, anywhere from about $2,000 to $5,000. NC State is doling out a smidge over $2,700 to players. The players are understandably excited about this long-time-coming concession. Mike Rose is planning increase his grocery budget:
"I'm going to eat some more," Rose said. "I am going to get me some more food."
The NCAA had already made a move to lessen restrictions on how much food a school can provide an athlete, which was a good step but not enough.
