Tommy Amaker is in his 12th season as the head coach at Harvard, and while he’s only gotten the Crimson to the NCAA tournament four times, it’s inarguable that this constitutes an outstanding job. After all, before Harvard got to the NCAAs in 2012, it hadn’t been in the tournament since 1946. That’s a long time to spend in purgatory.
Amaker has routinely had the Crimson near the top of the Ivy League standings, and they’d have been back in the NCAAs this year if not for a loss in the league tournament final to Yale. It might be small potatoes in the grand scheme, sure, but Harvard hasn’t been this consistently competitive within its league at any point since the invention of the television.
