The Mets unloaded Cory Mazzoni late in spring training, netting LOOGY Alex Torres from San Diego in return. Mazzoni, the former Pack Friday night starter, had a solid but injury-plagued tenure in the Amazings' minor leagues, posting a 24-12 record with an ERA a shade above four in four seasons spent mostly as a starter.
The Padres converted him to a reliever, and now the righty with a heavy mid 90s fastball is a major leaguer. Mazzoni got the call Sunday after a short start by a San Diego starter left the Padre bullpen shorthanded.
