James Madison was the FCS version of Alabama on the defensive side last season—it’s absolutely incredible how good the Dukes were at thwarting opposing offenses. Exactly one JMU opponent scored more than 17 points on their 2017 defense. Eight of the Dukes’ 15 opponents were held to 10 points or less.
The Dukes were incredible ball hawks, picking off 31 (!) passes while allowing only 10 touchdowns through the air. They averaged one interception for every 15 pass attempts by opposing quarterbacks. That is insane.
They were complete in every respect, and limited foes to an average of 3.
