Before we jump in here, some of you may not know what ‘Offensive Rating’ or ORtg% means.
AI, take it away…
ORtg is an abbreviation for Offensive Rating, which is a basketball statistic that measures the number of points scored or produced per 100 possessions.
Dean Oliver, author of Basketball on Paper, developed the ORtg rating, which has been available in the NBA since the 1977-78 season. ORtg is a better rating to use than points scored or points allowed because it adjusts for each team’s pace. For example, a team might not allow many points because they play at a slow pace, giving their opponents fewer possessions to score.
