When NC State faced Navy in the opening round of the Raleigh regional with both teams' aces on the hill, a pitcher's duel was a fair expectation. Instead, the Pack hit five homers and prevailed in a 13-8 slugfest. Against high-powered Coastal Carolina, a team State outlasted 13-10 earlier in the season, it would've been fair to expect fireworks. Instead, NC State went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and wasted a good effort from Cory Wilder and Cody Beckman, losing 4-0 to fall into the loser's bracket and an elimination game against Navy.
The game began Saturday night after a lengthy rain delay and was resumed Sunday afternoon in the ninth because more foul weather had halted the game after midnight.
