And away we go as the first big deal of the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline season is officially upon us.
The Flames are trading veteran defenseman Chris Tanev to the Stars for a second-round pick, a conditional third-round pick and prospect Artem Grushnikov. Calgary retained 50 percent of Tanev's $4.5 million cap hit and salary then shipped him over to the third-party Devils, who retained 50 percent of that in exchange for a fourth-round pick.
All-in-all, Tanev comes to the Stars with 75 percent of his salary retained, with a cap hit of around $1.
