Some call it the most exciting moment of a hockey game. The home team is down by a goal late in the third period, the goalie rushes to his bench, and an extra skater comes flying over the boards as the fans shift to the edge of their seats.

Pulling the goalie has long been an end-of-game strategy for a team down a goal or two to comeback and force overtime. But the game is changing faster and faster, and teams are starting to change the way we think about the empty net.
