Washington Capitals Hold on for 4-2 Win Over the Carolina Hurricanes

Carolina carried the play for the first ten minutes of the game, but they couldn’t capitalize on any of their chances. It looked like Carolina was set to control the game until Niklas Backstrom skated with the puck from the redline and wired a wrister from 50 or 60 feet out over the glove Petr Mrazek. After this goal a young Carolina team seemed to be shaken a began taking penalties. The Capitals went 2-2 on the PP in the first period with a goal from Backstrom (his second) and Alex Ovechkin.
