The internet has become an integral part of our daily lives, and it’s hard to imagine a world without it. In Greece, the internet has been around for over two decades, and its evolution has been remarkable.
The first internet connection in Greece was established in 1992 by the National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos.” The connection was made through a satellite link with the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Switzerland. This marked the beginning of the internet era in Greece.
In the early days, the internet was mainly used by academics and researchers. The first internet service provider (ISP) in Greece was FORTHnet, which was established in 1995.
