Why has it been so long since a team from Canada won the Stanley Cup?

Many people view Canada as the root of the hockey world. It seems to outsiders that every kid in the country grows up playing hockey and remains a lifelong fan. But, is Canada’s pride in their NHL teams slowly dwindling?

Based on the country’s unparalleled love for hockey, it is rather surprising that the NHL has only seven of thirty teams hailing from Canada: the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Winnipeg Jets, Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames, Ottawa Senators, and Edmonton Oilers.
