Another item on the Board of Governors agenda next week will be a brief report/update on the departure of NHL chief operating officer John Collins and where the league stands moving forward with that.
There are certainly a number of options, I believe, for the NHL on this front. While the league I think will elevate some people internally to bigger roles/responsibilities, there’s obviously also a chance of hiring someone from the outside; although on that end I sense more of an informal search here rather than a full-blown, formal search.
Here’s the other idea I think that’s being thought about: Whether the league splits Collins’ responsibilities among two or three people instead of just handing everything back to one person.
