JM: What made you decide to become a journalist?
JY: I kinda always knew what I wanted to do when I was young. I was really good with words, and I was a sports junkie. So by the time I was in high school, I knew that was what I was going to do.
JM: Was hockey your first choice of sports to cover?
JY: Not really. Baseball was always my favorite game to write about. I was in my early 20’s working at the Daily News in McKeesport, and we had press passes for both the Pirates and the Steelers, but nothing for the Pens.
