The Florida Panthers have signed young starting center Aleksander Barkov to a six-year extension worth an average of $5.9 million per season, a source told ESPN's Pierre LeBrun.
The Panthers, who lead the Atlantic Division, are expected to announce the new deal Tuesday, the source said.
Barkov is third on the team in scoring with 12 goals and 18 assists in 38 games this season. The 20-year-old from Finland was drafted second overall in the 2013 draft by the Panthers.
