The Edmonton Oilers signed defenseman Darnell Nurse to an eight-year, $74 million contract extension Friday.
The deal begins with the 2022-23 season and carries an average annual value of $9.25 million.

There was early speculation that Nurse was looking at a shorter-term, but things changes last week.
“Earlier in the week I’d reported that they were looking at a 4 year extension for Nurse,” Elliotte Friedman said.
