NHL has plan if rain interrupts Winter Classic

ST. LOUIS -- The NHL announced that Monday's Winter Classic will go on as scheduled after the potential for inclement weather led to concerns that the event could be delayed.

The forecast had called for rain and thunderstorms during the day at Busch Stadium, but the NHL will stick to its scheduled 1 p.m. ET puck drop between the Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues.

"The decision was made after consulting with meteorologists regarding the latest weather reports, which while the weather forecast is unpredictable, the original start time should provide the best opportunity to play the game," the NHL said in a statement Monday morning.
