Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Jonathan Bernier will probably check his surroundings the next time he goes to spit.
Bernier did not see any time on the ice during Monday night's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. At one point on the bench, he decided to spit—without looking both ways before doing so.
Someone skated by at that exact moment and got hit by Bernier's spit. And the look on the Maple Leafs goalie's face says it all.
Bernier felt bad about the situation and wanted to personally apologize, according to Sportsnet's Christine Simpson:
FYI Bernier feels so badly he's asked to meet the guy post-game to apologize & give him a signed stick.
