FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Hours before the first round of the 2015 NHL Draft was scheduled to begin, Buffalo Sabres general manager Tim Murray stood in front of a large contingent of media and was somewhat in shock.
Back in early February, before Murray pulled off a seven-player trade with the Winnipeg Jets, he figured he'd be making three selections in the first round Friday night at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla. Instead he'll be making one -- selecting Jack Eichel with the No. 2 pick -- and putting him with a young core that also features forward Evander Kane and goalie Robin Lehner.
